Guam Journey, Part 1

There are so many things I want to share about my trip to Guam, so, as Julie Andrews suggests, I’ll just start at the very beginning. :)

On September 16, I was asked by my friend (Kailey) to consider joining her on an upcoming trip to visit our church plant on Guam. At this point, it was Kailey and another one of our friends, Joanna, who were going. These are some of my close friends so, I mean, why wouldn’t I want to go!? That’s mostly how I felt. But the really long plane rides and being away from my family for 10 days didn’t sound fun. However, I told Kailey I would consider it.

A few days later, on the 18th, I had a dream. I won’t give you the play-by-play, but the part of the dream that felt most significant was that I was forced to jump out of a burning building. There was no other way to escape. And when I looked out of the window to jump, there was a crowd of joyful people with smiles on their faces. There was even a group of cheerleaders ready in stunt formation to catch me. I yelled out, “I’m jumping out of the window! Please try to catch me!“ I woke up as I jumped.

That next day, I was processing this dream with a friend, Kelli, on Marco Polo. I felt fairly confident it was about Guam. Saying yes to this trip felt like jumping out of a window. It felt risky, it felt scary, but it also felt like maybe it was the clear way forward.

Later that day, I went to Target and I ran into Kelli! We paused in the produce section and kept our conversation going about this Guam trip. Probably 5-10 minutes into it, I look over and I see Joanna walk through the doors of Target. I was shocked! I said to Kelli, “Did you know that Joanna is going on the Guam trip?” Her eyes got big and she said, “No!”

It was very obvious to me in that moment that my answer was YES. So thankful for the many ways God speaks to us!
